TASC LEARNING- ROCKS

Following on from staff training in using the TASC (Thinking actively in a social context) the class have used this approach to their science project on rocks.

The children were challenged to find the best rock (with suitable characteristics) to build the walls, roof and foundations for a new house for Mrs Scarisbrick.
Working in groups the children set about researching their task.
The children are taught how to test the permeability of rocks.

Weighing rocks to find out how much water they absorbed.

Researching using Geology websites.

Teamwork

Comparing marble,limestone,sandstone,slate,clay,granite and chalk.

What happened to our clay?

Researching in the Geology zone.

Many children brought in their rock collections into school.

The children prepared presentations to the rest of the class. They were awarded points for including certain elements e.g. Using a bar chart with an explanation.

The winning team. Well done!

TASC wheel display.

It was great to see the children so engaged with their learning. Children were inspired to complete their own research at home. They were able to take ownership of their own learning. A very positive learning experience. The children completed self evaluations ,using the success criteria, on how well they worked scientifically which emphasised the progress they made.

LISTER TRIATHLON

On Wednesday 5th June 2013, Lister School held a triathlon at the Hammersmith Gymnasium.

Children from years 1 to 6 had the opportunity to take part in the event which involved running, cycling and an obstacle course.

First of all, when we arrived at the gym everything had already been set up by the army and PTIs (for the bike, run and assault course). All the races took place between 09:15 and 14:15.

Many thanks to Mr Chapman and his great team for an exciting event.
