Week beginning 28-4-14

This week we begin our exciting new Deep in Space topic. There will be a real cross curricular approach with virtually the whole curriculum being taught through the subject. For example, this week in Literacy, we will be blasting off  with a persuasive radio advertisement for a trip into space, and we will be creating (avatar) characters to use in our Space adventure writing. Here are the success criteria for writing this week.

Year 3/4
Character description and adventure story.
Objective
I used paragraphs.
I described my avatar/character with adjectives and simile.
I gave it a certain personality.
I used commas for lists.
I used a ? and a !
I used speech and “ “
I used the third person and past tense.
I used 3 different connectives.
I used a drop in clause
I used adverbs(including one at the start of a sentence.)

In Maths we will be revising place value and adding
and subtracting amounts of money using decimal
notation.

Watch this 'SPACE' for our next creative curriculum topic.

THE DAY JEREMY STRONG VISITED OUR SCHOOL...WOW!

Happy Easter Everyone.

Tenner challenge: Easter

Our final business idea: franchises. Each group was responsible for designing a fairground game.
The game had to involve some Maths. We used probability,co-ordinates and all the 4 rules of number. Each group had a float of 3 euros. They had to calculate their prizes and pricing policy because if they ran out of money they would be bankrupt.
Lots of children came to play. We practised our persuasive language in the posters.

It’s been a terrific project teaching children about money, entrepreneurship and some of the rules(and harsh truths) of running a business.

Our final total was 86 euros. We deducted our start-up of 12 euros to leave a final balance of 74 euros.

Now we will decide how to use it in the summer term. Should we give it to charity or use it to improve our classroom and learning environment.

NIGHT AT THE OSCARS

It was a chance for everyone to get their best clothes on and celebrate Oscar night.
Bringing to an end the ‘Let me entertain you’ topic, it was a chance to watch films showcasing some of the work this term.
Y3/4 won the best documentary section for their ‘spoof’ documentary entitled ‘Radio Lister’.

We all enjoyed the red carpet treatment…
