Success criteria for week beginning 13-1-14

Maths:

Add three 2-digit numbers using partitioning into 10s and 1s.
Subtract any 2-digit number from another, using counting up.
Select an appropriate strategy to subtract.
Use compact addition to add amounts of money with one then 2 ‘carries’, e.g. £3.25 + £2.68.
Use counting up to subtract 3-digit numbers, e.g. 414 – 278.
Find the change from £5 and from £10.
Find a difference between prices, e.g. £4.24 and £3.78.
Expanded addition:
            £3.24 + £2.58

 +         £2    50p  8p
            £5    70p   12p  £5.82

Compact addition
         £3.24
 +      £2.58
               1­­­­    
         £5.82

Literacy: We will continue with our newspaper report genre. The children will be note taking at a 'press conference'. They will be writing reports using increasingly varied sentences.

Science: As  Antony Jinman  (see previous post)  approaches the South Pole, we investigate the effects of layering to increase insulation.
