This term we have a fabulous opportunity to record a radio show. With the help of BFBS presenter, Alex Gill, the children will write and perform and record an hour long radio show. We are also hoping to visit the BFBS recording studios for a day.

New success criteria for week beginning 27-1-14

This week we will be measuring and using our new knowledge of decimal numbers.

Measure lengths in m and cm and record.

Convert cm into m and cm.

Measure lengths in cm and mm.

Convert lengths from cm to cm and mm.

Weigh items in g and kg to the nearest 100g.

Convert from kg to g and from g to kg (1dp).

Record results in a bar graph, one square =100g or 0.1kg.

In Literacy we will be continuing with our genre:Fantasy worlds.

We look forward, on Wednesday, to a visit from our local German school.

Success criteria for week beginning 20-1-14

LITERACY

We begin a new genre FANTASY WORLDS. Here is the marking scheme for the next 2 weeks:

My story is set in an imaginary place or time

I described characters using varied adjectives

I used some speech with correct punctuation.

I used varied ‘said’ verbs and adverbs.

My story has a clear beginning, middle and end.

My paragraphs all start with a different word.

I have used at least 3 connectives.

I have used a comma.

In maths we will continue with the success criteria from last week, building on the improvement the children have made with decimal calculations.

In Science we will be completing our unit on KEEPING WARM. Don't forget to bring your insulated cup in for Tuesday's science competition(see homework.)

Success criteria for week beginning 13-1-14

Maths:

Add three 2-digit numbers using partitioning into 10s and 1s.

Subtract any 2-digit number from another, using counting up.

Select an appropriate strategy to subtract.

Use compact addition to add amounts of money with one then 2 ‘carries’, e.g. £3.25 + £2.68.

Use counting up to subtract 3-digit numbers, e.g. 414 – 278.

Find the change from £5 and from £10.

Find a difference between prices, e.g. £4.24 and £3.78.

Expanded addition:

Literacy: We will continue with our newspaper report genre. The children will be note taking at a 'press conference'. They will be writing reports using increasingly varied sentences.

Science: As  Antony Jinman  (see previous post)  approaches the South Pole, we investigate the effects of layering to increase insulation.

Success criteria and learning objectives for the first week back.

Maths            Place value:success criteria

Place 3-digit numbers on a 0–1000 line with 100s marked with some degree of accuracy.

Order three 3-digit numbers using place value.

Understand that when we divide by 10, digits shift one place to the right.

Understand that when we multiply by 10, digits shift one place to the left.

Understand what each digit represents in a number with one decimal place. Place 1-place decimals on a number line.

Recognise decimal and fraction forms of tenths.

Order at least 10 numbers with 1 decimal place.

Literacy Genre:Newspapers ( 2weeks)

Objective

My introduction sets the scene with the five Ws; Where? Why? Who? What? When?

I have recounted events in chronological order

My closing statement brings the writing to a conclusion

This week we will be starting a block of  Science learning

with ‘Hot and Cold’. This module will ask the children to

measure temperature and investigate thermal properties.

Our creative curriculum topic is entitled ‘Let me entertain

You’. Our class focus will be on communication. A detailed topic

Web will be sent home next week.
